A new video from Dreamers Adrift takes a hard look at how gender privilege plays out even in “progressive” circles. As Adrifter Tina Vasquez wrote in her piece on sexism within activist movements, having good politics on one set of issues doesn’t inoculate you from ignorance, and ignorance hurts a lot more when its wrapped up in misplaced self-righteousness. You don’t have to profess saintliness, just be real.
From Dreamers Adrift’s introduction:
“Sexism– we don’t always see it or want to acknowledge it, but it’s there.
In its blatant manifestations, we see men talking over the voices of women. But it can also occur in subtle and insidious ways, such as when men are assumed to be the leaders and visionaries. It’s not only be awkward but infuriating as well!” – Catherine
